Palm Sugar Steamed Cake Recipe

Here is the recipe for making Palm Sugar Steamed Cakes:


– 200 grams of flour
– 100 grams of sugar
– 100 grams of palm sugar, shaved or finely sliced
​​– 150 ml of water
– 100 ml of thick coconut milk
– 2 eggs
– 1 teaspoon of baking powder
– 1/4 teaspoon of salt
– Oil for greasing


1. Heat water in a saucepan until it boils. Add the palm sugar to the hot water and stir until the palm sugar dissolves and forms a thick solution. Remove from the heat and let the palm sugar solution cool.

2. In a bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until the sugar dissolves and the dough is fluffy.

3. Add flour, baking powder, and salt to the egg mixture. Stir well.

4. Pour the palm sugar and coconut milk mixture into the egg and flour mixture. Stir until evenly mixed and there are no lumps.

5. Prepare a steamed cake pan, brush it with a little oil so the cake doesn’t stick. Pour the dough into the pan until it reaches 3/4 of the height of the pan.

6. Heat the steamer over medium heat. Place the cake batter pan on top of the steamer and cover with the steamer cover. Steam the cake for about 30-40 minutes until cooked. Check the flexibility of the cake by piercing it with a toothpick, if the toothpick comes out clean, the cake is done.

7. Remove the steamed cake from the steamer and let it cool for a while. After that, remove the cake from the tin and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
