How To Make Brown Sugar Cakes

Here is a recipe for making Palm Sugar Cake Talam:


White layer:
– 200 grams of rice flour
– 400 ml of water
– 200 ml of thick coconut milk
– 1/4 teaspoon of salt

Palm sugar coating:
– 200 grams of palm sugar, shaved or finely sliced
​​– 200 ml of water
– 1 pandan leaf, tie a knot


1. Prepare a baking tray or tray with a diameter of about 20 cm. Brush with a little oil so the cake doesn’t stick.

2. For the white coating, mix rice flour and water in a bowl. Stir well until there are no lumps. Sieve the mixture to get a smooth dough.

3. Cook thick coconut milk with salt in a saucepan until it boils. After that, add the rice flour mixture little by little while continuing to stir until the mixture thickens and there are no lumps.

4. Pour the white mixture into the pan or mold. Smooth the surface.

5. For the palm sugar coating, mix the palm sugar, water, and pandan leaves in a saucepan. Heat over medium heat while continuing to stir until the palm sugar dissolves and forms a thick solution. Remove pandan leaves.

6. Pour the palm sugar solution over the white mixture that was poured earlier. Make sure the palm sugar layer is evenly distributed over the white mixture.

7. Steam the cake tray in a steamer pan over medium heat until cooked, about 20-30 minutes. Check by piercing the cake with a toothpick, if the toothpick comes out clean, the cake is done.

8. Remove the cake tray from the steamer pan and let it cool for a while. After that, remove the cake from the tin or mold.

9. Cut the palm sugar cake tray into a rectangular shape or according to taste.
